Hazlewood received clearance to join the Australian team for the initial Test against England following fitness concerns, but fellow pace bowler Sean Abbott will miss the match

Each encountered hamstring injuries during their match for NSW versus Victoria in the Sheffield Shield on Wednesday

Medical examinations revealed Hazlewood, 34 avoided a muscle strain. The uncapped Abbott, 33, has a moderate-level injury

Team captain Cummins is out of the initial match, starting November 21, meaning the absence of another experienced fast bowler such as Hazlewood might have represented a major blow

The bowler stood not expected to participate during the Western Australia Test, while Hazlewood will combine fellow quicks Starc and Boland as the primary pace attack

Cummins, who is recovering from back issues, is thought to be on track to return for the second Test commencing December fourth

Batsman Steve Smith will captain the side in Cummins' absence

Like many of the Australia players, Hazlewood is involved in recent matches of domestic cricket building up to the historic rivalry

Before this week, he had not played red-ball cricket representing NSW in more than a year

He felt tightness in his hamstring during the final stages of Victoria's second innings during the match exiting the play for safety reasons

The two bowlers participated in batting for the follow-on innings during their defeat in a substantial margin

"We have one week before the international cricket - always err on the side of caution," commented Cummins

"They needed to determine what was happening prior to testing it and potentially making anything worse"

"It's rare to get him chipper, therefore it was positive observing his positive demeanor"

"He's aware of his condition thoroughly. It seemed he felt slightly anxious (and) wanted to get it checked out"

Abbott earned 57 appearances representing Australia in ODI and T20 cricket

The uncapped Doggett represents additional pace options among the selections, offering support to Starc, Boland and Hazlewood
